Healthwatch Cheshire West publish Leighton Hospital A&E Watch report

In Summer 2022, Healthwatch were approached by the then Cheshire A&E Delivery Board to undertake an A&E Watch at Leighton Hospital. This was in the context of unprecedented levels of attendance in the department and to understand reasons why people were attending, specifically whether they had attempted to access any other services prior to going to A&E.
A&E Watch allows Healthwatch Cheshire to gather the experiences of individuals, which provides additional rich and detailed information, enhancing the statistics regarding A&E attendance.
The report has been produced based on the responses from the 197 people who completed our survey across five engagement sessions at the hospital. It is recommended that the information is used to provide intelligence for the planning of A&E services in Cheshire, and is being shared with the public via publication on Healthwatch Cheshire East and Cheshire West websites. It is additionally directly shared with Cheshire East and Cheshire West Health and Care Partnership Boards which incorporate partners from local Health NHS Trusts, NHS Primary Care, Local Authorities and the Voluntary, Community, Social Enterprise and Faith Sector.
