What is Healthwatch?
Healthwatch Cheshire West gives the whole community – adults, young people and children a powerful voice to comment on the services they receive both locally and nationally as an independent consumer champion.
Whether it’s improving these services today or helping to shape them for the future, Healthwatch Cheshire West is all about local voices being able to influence the delivery and design of local services, not just for people who use them now, but for anyone who might need to in the future.
Healthwatch will play a role at both national and local level and will make sure that the views of the public and people who use services are taken into account. We have a seat on Cheshire West and Chester Council's Health and Wellbeing boards set up by our local authority Cheshire West and Chester Council and report concerns about the quality of health care to Healthwatch England, which can then recommend that the Care Quality Commission take action.
How are we set up?
Healthwatch Cheshire West, along with Healthwatch Cheshire East, is now part of Healthwatch Cheshire, a Community Interest Company. Healthwatch Cheshire West is made up of a consortium of local organisations, consisting of:
- Age UK Cheshire
- Cheshire Centre for Independent Living (Lead Organisation)
- Cheshire, Halton and Warrington Race Equality Centre
- Chester Voluntary Action
- Youth Federation
- DIAL West Cheshire
The Healthwatch Board is responsible for the delivery of the Healthwatch Cheshire West Work plan and financial, business and governance issues. Representatives of the six consortium organisations are directors of the Healthwatch Board and other voluntary board members have been recruited from the local population to represent the diversity of citizens of Cheshire West and Chester.
